Renewable Biomass Energy Investment Opportunity in Central Macedonia, Greece
Renewable Biomass Energy Investment Opportunity in
Central Macedonia, Greece
VERD Q.I. presents an investment opportunity comprising four biomass gasification power projects with a combined electrical capacity of 2,998 kW (approximately 3 MW), located in Terpyllos, Kilkis, Central Macedonia, Greece.
The projects are designed to generate renewable electricity from agricultural and forestry residues using advanced biomass gasification technology.
The portfolio comprises four independently structured projects, allowing investors to consider acquiring the complete portfolio, individual projects or participating through a joint venture with the developer.
Project Information
Location: Terpyllos, Kilkis, Central Macedonia, Greece
Technology: Biomass Gasification / Renewable Electricity Generation
Number of Projects: 4 independent projects
Total Electrical Capacity: 2,998 kW (approximately 3 MW)
Individual Capacities: 2 × 500 kW and 2 × 999 kW
Feedstock: Agricultural residues and forestry by-products
Gasification Technology: Fixed-bed downdraft and two-stage gasification systems
Indicative Feed-in Tariff: €176/MWh, subject to confirmation of project-specific entitlement
Proposed Tariff Duration: 20 years
Each project is structured through an independent special-purpose vehicle (SPV), allowing potential flexibility in ownership and transaction structuring.
Biomass Gasification Technology
The proposed facilities will convert agricultural and forestry biomass into synthesis gas (syngas) through a controlled thermochemical gasification process.
The resulting gas is intended to fuel combined heat and power (CHP) generation equipment.
According to the project documentation, the technology is designed to achieve electrical efficiencies of approximately 28–32%, with additional opportunities for useful heat recovery.
Biomass Feedstock Supply
The projects are intended to use locally available biomass resources from Kilkis and Thessaloniki, including:
- Agricultural residues such as cereal straw, sunflower husks and cotton stalks.
- Pruning waste and other agricultural by-products.
- Forestry residues, woodchips, sawdust and bark.
Estimated feedstock requirements range from 8,000 to 15,000 tonnes annually per project, depending on plant configuration.
The developer indicates that feedstock supply arrangements are being discussed with local agricultural cooperatives.
Location and Investment Advantages
The projects are situated in approximately 55 km north of Thessaloniki, within an agricultural region of Central Macedonia.
The location offers proximity to agricultural and forestry feedstock resources, regional transport infrastructure and existing electricity networks.
The developer indicates that an ADMIE electrical substation is situated approximately 2 km from the proposed project location.
The portfolio combines renewable electricity generation with the potential utilisation of locally sourced biomass residues, supporting circular-economy activities and regional agricultural supply chains.
